With the NBA season just over a week away, Jose Salviati and Steve Purciello put 24 minutes on the clock to break down Steve’s latest 13 Rules: Random NBA Thoughts column. They start with the Sixers losing their backup center in the first preseason game and why that matters more in Philly than anywhere else. Then they get into the league’s new point of emphasis on offensive push offs, and whether Michael Jordan’s famous shove on Bryon Russell would draw a whistle today.
From there it’s six team situations to watch: the Hawks’ undersized center problem, a Warriors team that keeps getting older, whether the Hornets got better after trading LaMelo Ball, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s arrival in Miami, and whether the Jazz rebuild is finally paying off. Steve also explains why max money for stars who miss 20 to 30 games can sink a team in the second apron era.
